Auto cut
Where Studio › All tools › Auto cut, or Home › Open a tool: Auto cutCost 10 credits to read the speech, 20 credits to pick moments
Auto cut turns a long video into short clips. It reads the speech, finds the passages that stand on their own, each opening on a hook and ending on a finished thought, and cuts them into clips that are framed on the speaker and captioned. You can also choose the moments yourself. Each clip opens in the video editor, ready to export.
Add a video
Section titled “Add a video”From a file: press Choose a video, or drop it on the page. Large files are sent in parts; if your connection drops, choose the same file again and it carries on where it stopped.
From YouTube: paste the address under Address of one video, tick I have the rights to use this video, and press Fetch the video. Use a single video, not a playlist.
The video is read in the background, with progress for each stage: fetching, storing, separating the speech, reading it, choosing moments, cutting clips. One video is read at a time.
Pick the moments
Section titled “Pick the moments”Choose one of two tabs.
Pick the best moments for me
Section titled “Pick the best moments for me”-
Set How many clips (as many good ones as there are, up to 8, or a number from 1 to 8) and How long (About 30 seconds, About 60 seconds or Up to 90 seconds).
-
Set the Format (9:16 portrait, 1:1 square or 16:9 landscape), Captions on or off, and the caption Look.
-
Press Pick the best moments.
Each clip appears as a card with a poster, a title, its start time, a score, and why it was picked. Clip edges land between words, in the silence beside them.
I’ll choose them myself
Section titled “I’ll choose them myself”The player sits beside the transcript. Press a sentence to choose it, then ⇧-press another (or drag) to choose everything between. Play it to check, then Make a clip. Search the transcript finds a moment by its words. If the speech hasn’t been read, choose by time with Starts at and Ends at.
Open a clip
Section titled “Open a clip”Press Open in editor on a card. A new edit opens with the clip trimmed, filling the frame in your chosen format, and captioned from its own words. Each clip has three seconds of extra footage on both sides, so you can extend it in the editor.
Framing finds the main person and centres on them for the whole clip. Someone who walks across the frame isn’t followed; adjust the position in the editor if needed. Each card says how it was framed: Framed on the speaker, Framed on the centre or Whole picture.
The × on a card removes it; an edit you already made from it stays.
Videos with no speech
Section titled “Videos with no speech”For a video in which nobody speaks, Auto cut picks moments from the loudness and the changes in the picture, for free. These cards are marked From loudness and picture.
