# Design Studio

> Design posters, thumbnails, social posts, slides, banners and app screens with an AI partner, then edit every layer by hand and export a PNG.

**Where:** Studio › Create › Design studio · **Cost:** 10 credits a request

Design Studio is an AI design partner. Describe a poster, a video thumbnail, a social post, a slide, a banner, a link preview or an app screen, and the AI designer builds the whole design as editable layers at a fitting size. Then change any layer by hand, or ask for changes in words.

## Make a design

1. In the studio, open **Create** (or **All tools**) and choose **Design studio**. A blank page opens as **Untitled design**, with the **AI designer** panel on the left and its prompt at the bottom.

2. Describe what you want in the prompt (**Describe what to design…**). You can also start from a suggestion: **A poster**, **A video thumbnail** or **An app screen**. A suggestion fills the prompt for you to finish; it doesn’t send.

3. Press <kbd>Enter</kbd> or the round send button. <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd> adds a new line.

4. While the designer works you’ll see **Designing…** with a timer. The design can’t be edited until the answer arrives. A poster or thumbnail usually takes 20 to 40 seconds.

5. The design lands change by change. An AI pointer moves across the page and names each layer as it’s added or changed.

The conversation keeps a record of each answer, for example **A new design** or **4 changes**, with what changed: added, reworded, restyled, picture or removed. Press **Undo** beside an answer to take the whole answer back, as long as you haven’t changed the design since.

## Refine with words

Once a design exists, the suggestions become **Bolder headline**, **Another palette** and **Resize for a story**. Ask for anything else in your own words, for example *“Make the headline shorter and move the date to the top.”*

**To change one layer**, click it on the page first. The prompt then asks **What should change about this layer?** and shows an **About \[layer\]** tag. Remove the tag to ask about the whole design again.

## Design from a website

Put a web address in your request, for example *“A launch poster for example.com”*. The designer reads the site first and takes:

- its name, title, description, headings and calls to action,
- one accent colour (the logo’s, or the site’s declared theme colour),
- the logo and up to three pictures, which are also added to your [Assets](https://docs.muvomi.com/workspace/media-library/).

The conversation shows that the site is being read, then **Read \[site name\]**. A site already read for this design isn’t read again. The designer only states what the site states; it won’t invent prices or claims.

> **Note:** An address written with `https://` or `www.` always counts. A bare name counts when it ends like a website (`.com`, `.io`, `.app`, `.in`, `.co.uk` and so on). Fonts, full palettes and anything a site draws only with JavaScript aren’t read.

## Edit by hand

The rail on the right has four panels:

| Panel | What you can do |
| --- | --- |
| **Layers** | See every layer as a tree. **Show all layers** expands it. |
| **Layer** | Edit the selected layer. For words: the text, **Type size**, **Weight**, **Alignment**, **Colour**, **Background**, **Corner radius** and **Opacity**. For pictures: **Choose a picture**, **Choose another picture** or **Take the picture away**. Also **Move earlier**, **Move later**, **Duplicate** and **Delete**. |
| **Colours and type** | Change the **Artboard** colour, and the colours and typefaces **Shared by the layers**. Changing a shared colour changes every layer that uses it. |
| **Size** | Choose a preset, or type any width and height from 64 to 4,096 px. |

**To type on the page**, double-click a words layer (or select it and press <kbd>Enter</kbd>). Click away to keep your typing, or press <kbd>Esc</kbd> to cancel.

**Size presets:** Poster 1080 × 1350, Square 1080 × 1080, Story 1080 × 1920, Video thumbnail 1280 × 720, Slide 1920 × 1080, Desktop screen 1440 × 1024, Tablet screen 834 × 1194, Phone screen 390 × 844, Banner 1584 × 396, Link preview 1200 × 630.

**Typefaces:** Inter, DM Sans, Space Grotesk, Montserrat, Instrument Serif, Anton and Caveat.

**Zoom** with the − and + buttons; the percentage button fits the page to the window.

> **Tip:** Changing the size keeps layers where they are. After resizing, ask the designer to rearrange the layout for the new shape.

### Shortcuts

| Keys | Action |
| --- | --- |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>/<kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Z</kbd> | Undo |
| <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Ctrl</kbd>/<kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Z</kbd> or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>/<kbd>⌘</kbd>+<kbd>Y</kbd> | Redo |
| <kbd>Delete</kbd> or <kbd>Backspace</kbd> | Remove the selected layer |
| <kbd>Esc</kbd> | Deselect |

You have 40 steps of undo while the design is open.

## Export

Press **Export PNG** at the top right and choose **1×** (the design’s size) or **2×** (double). The PNG downloads at once, and a copy is added to your [Assets](https://docs.muvomi.com/workspace/media-library/).

**Backup** downloads the design as a `.muvomi.json` file, which you can restore from **Projects › Import backup**. A backup doesn’t include the pictures.

Designs save automatically about a second after each change. The top bar shows **Saved**, **Saving…**, **Unsaved changes** or **Not saved**.

## Saved conversations

Each design keeps its own conversation. Reopen the design and the conversation is there, with **Earlier conversation** to load older turns. If you reload while a request is being made, you’ll see **Check for its answer**.

## Cost

Each request uses 10 credits. The prompt shows the price before you send, and the send button is disabled if you don’t have enough credits. Reading a website is included. A request that fails or ends without a design gives its credits back. Editing by hand, undo, export and backup are free.

## Limits

- A request is 3 to 2,000 characters. One request per design runs at a time.
- A page holds up to 1,600 layers and 24 pictures.
- The designer works with type, shapes, line icons and your pictures. It doesn’t generate photos or illustrations; use [AI Image](https://docs.muvomi.com/create/ai-image/) for those and add them to the design.
- Layers can’t be dragged to move or resize. Use **Move earlier** and **Move later**, or ask the designer.
- PNG is the only export format.

## Troubleshooting

| You see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| *Describe what to design in a few words first.* | Write at least three characters. |
| *This request is too long to send.* | Shorten the request. |
| *An earlier request for this design is still being worked on.* | Wait for it to finish, then ask again. |
| *The designer ran out of time before the design was finished.* | Your design is unchanged and you aren’t charged. Ask again, or ask for something simpler. |
| *The connection dropped while waiting… Your request is not lost.* | Press **Check again**. |
| *The design could not be saved, so nothing was sent.* | Wait for the design to save (or press **Retry save**), then ask again. |
| A **Load the newer version** prompt | The design was saved somewhere else, for example another tab. Load the newer version, or save yours as a copy. |
