# Caption languages

> Captions in English, Indian and world languages: in each language's own script, in Latin letters like Hinglish and Tanglish, or translated.

Captions can be written in 51 languages: English, 14 Indian languages and 36 languages of the world. Speech that mixes in English words, as many people do, is handled too: the English words stay in English.

## Choose a language

In the **Captions** panel, the **Language** box is type-to-find. Type *“Tel”* for Telugu, *“pinyin”* for Chinese or *“hinglish”* for Hindi. It lists **Auto (from the voice)** and **English**, then **Indian languages**, then **World languages**.

**Auto** works out the language from the voice. If you know the language, choosing it first helps the recogniser.

## Choose how it’s written

**Write in** offers, depending on the language:

| Choice | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| **Its own script** | The words as heard, in the language’s script: Devanagari for Hindi, Tamil script for Tamil, Arabic script for Arabic. |
| **Latin letters** | The spelling people type on their phones: Hinglish, Tanglish, Telugish, Pinyin, Romaji and so on. |
| **Translate to …** | The captions translated, phrase by phrase, into any other language on the list. |

With **Auto**, Indian languages are written in Latin letters by default, and other languages in their own script.

**Change your mind at any time.** Changing the language or the writing rewrites the captions at once from what was already heard, without listening again. Words you fixed are kept where the two writings match. One **Undo** takes it back.

## If the voice doesn’t match

If you choose a language and the voice is heard as another one, your captions are kept and the panel offers **Listen again as …**. Nothing is listened to again until you press it.

> **Tip:** Spoken Urdu is often heard as Hindi, and Odia as Bengali. Choose the language yourself and press **Listen again** to get the right script.

## Cost

The first captions job for a recording is 10 credits, and includes its first writing in Latin letters or a translation. Switching later to another Latin-letter writing or translation is another captions job the first time; going back to a writing already made, or to the language’s own script, is free.

You can see real captions in each language on [muvomi.com/languages](https://muvomi.com/languages).
