# Audio cleanup

> Remove noise, hum and room echo, enhance a voice, level loudness, and cut silences and filler words, without ever changing the original recording.

**Where:** Video editor › Audio, or Home › Open a tool: Audio cleanup · **Cost:** 10 credits a clean; silence and filler removal free

Audio cleanup fixes the sound of a recording. Each tool processes the clip on Muvomi’s servers and saves the result as a new clip. You compare **Processed** with **Original**, then keep it or discard it. Your original recording is never changed.

## Clean a recording

1. In the video editor (with AI mode off), select a video or audio clip, then press **Audio** in the tool row.

2. Choose a tool and, where offered, a strength: **Light**, **Balanced** (the default) or **Strong**.

3. Press the tool’s button. It shows *Processing…*

4. Press play and switch between **Processed** and **Original** to compare.

5. Press **Keep this version**, or **Discard**.

**Undo** restores the original afterwards.

In AI mode, just ask: *“Clean up the audio”*, *“Remove background noise”* or *“Remove hum”*. These exact phrases run the tool straight away and cost nothing extra. See [Free commands](https://docs.muvomi.com/edit/editor-ai/#free-commands).

## The tools

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Noise cancel** | Removes hiss, fans, air conditioning and room tone. **Strong** also quietens the gaps between phrases. |
| **Voice enhancer** | Adds clarity and presence, tames harsh S sounds, and evens out the level. |
| **Studio sound** | One step: reduces noise, balances the voice and sets the loudness. |
| **Level loudness** | Brings quiet and loud passages to an even level for online video (about −14 LUFS). |
| **Remove hum** | Removes 50 and 60 Hz electrical hum. |
| **Reduce reverb** | Lowers the room echo that rings on after words. |

## Tighten the talk

Two more tools shorten speech, and they’re free:

- **Remove silence** finds pauses longer than about half a second, keeps a short breath on each side, and removes the same time from every track, so the picture, sound, titles and captions stay in step.
- **Remove filler words** cuts *um*, *uh*, *erm* and *hmm*. It reads the clip’s captions, so [caption](https://docs.muvomi.com/sound/captions/) the clip first.

Both show their cuts as **With cuts** for you to compare with **Original** before you keep them. Each pass makes up to 24 cuts.

## Cost

Each of the six cleaning tools costs 10 credits, and a clean that fails is given back. Remove silence and Remove filler words are free (filler removal needs captions, which are a captions job if the clip has none yet).

## Limits

- One selected clip at a time, up to 100 MB.
- The tools reduce steady noise. They don’t remove sudden sounds like a door or a horn, other voices, or music under a voice.
- Filler-word removal is written for English.

> **Tip:** Clean the sound before you add captions and cut the edit. Cleaning never changes a clip’s length, so captions and cuts stay aligned either way.
