# Exporting and downloading

> Export your video as an MP4 up to 4K, choose frame rate, codec and captions, export audio only or a thumbnail, and download your files. Always free.

Exporting renders your project on Muvomi’s servers as a video file you can download. **Exporting is always free**, as often as you like. On the Free plan, exports carry a small *Made with Muvomi* badge with the Muvomi icon in the bottom-right corner; paid plans export without it. See [The watermark](https://docs.muvomi.com/account/billing/#the-watermark).

There are two export dialogs: one in the [video editor](https://docs.muvomi.com/edit/exporting/#export-from-the-video-editor), and one for [films, shorts and templates](https://docs.muvomi.com/edit/exporting/#export-a-film-short-or-template).

## Export from the video editor

1. Press **Export** in the editor’s header.

2. Choose a **Preset**, or adjust the settings below.

3. Press **Export**. The export joins the **Queue** at the bottom of the dialog.

4. When it reads **Ready**, press **Download**.

You can keep editing while it renders. Exports render one at a time, and up to five can wait in the queue.

### Presets

| Preset | Output |
| --- | --- |
| **YouTube 1080p** | 1920 × 1080, H.264 (the default) |
| **Instagram Reels** | 1080 × 1920, H.264 |
| **TikTok** | 1080 × 1920, H.264 |
| **4K master** | Your edit’s shape at 4K, highest quality |
| **Audio only · MP3** | The sound alone, 320 kbps |
| **Audio only · WAV** | The sound alone, uncompressed |

**Save preset…** keeps your own settings under **Yours** (up to 30).

### Settings

| Setting | Choices | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Format** | Video (MP4), Audio only (MP3), Audio only (WAV) | MP4 |
| **Shape** | As the edit, 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 | The preset’s |
| **Resolution** | 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K, Custom | 1080p |
| **Frame rate** | 24, 25, 30, 60 fps | 30 fps |
| **Codec** | H.264, H.265 (HEVC) | H.264 |
| **Quality** | High, Maximum (larger file), Target bitrate (1 to 200 Mbps) | High |
| **Captions** | Burned into the picture; As a file (.srt); Burned in, and as a file; None | Burned in |
| **Range** | Entire edit; In to out; The clips chosen; From … to … | Entire edit |

- **Resolution** is the shorter side, so 4K is 3840 × 2160 in 16:9 and 2160 × 3840 in 9:16.
- **Custom** sizes are even numbers from 256 to 4,096 px a side, within 4096 × 2160 pixels in total.
- Sound in an MP4 is AAC at 320 kbps.
- The timeline runs at 30 fps; other frame rates drop or repeat frames rather than inventing motion.

**Thumbnail at …** saves a JPG of the frame at the playhead, at the chosen size.

### The queue

Each export shows **Waiting its turn**, its progress, then **Ready** with **Download**. **Cancel** stops one that’s rendering. The queue is kept in this browser for each edit. Asking for an export that’s already queued with the same settings reuses it.

## Export a film, short or template

AI Product Director films, AI Shorts and template films use the **Export video** dialog. Open it with **Download video** or **Render video**.

1. Choose a **Destination**: **Original format**, **YouTube · 16:9**, **Reels / TikTok / Shorts · 9:16** or **Instagram feed · 1:1** (only the shapes the film supports are offered).

2. Choose a resolution: **720p**, **1080p**, **1440p** or **4K (Ultra HD)**.

3. Set the **Frame rate** (24, 30 or 60 fps) and **Encoding** (**H.264 · widely compatible** or **H.265 / HEVC**). **Advanced settings** has **Quality** and **Custom dimensions**.

4. For films with narration or music, choose what’s in your download under **Audio in your download**: switch **Voice-over** and **Background music** on or off.

5. Press **Export**. Progress shows four stages: **Preparing your assets**, **Rendering every frame**, **Encoding your MP4** and **Adding the finishing touches**, with a time estimate once rendering is under way.

6. When it’s done, press **Download MP4**.

**Cancel rendering** stops an export. **Render again** makes a fresh one. Your film itself never changes when you choose export settings.

> **Tip:** In an AI Product Director film’s chat, you can type *export*, *export without music*, *export voice-over only* or *silent* to start an export at once, for free.

## Downloading again later

Finished exports are kept in your private storage. Open the same project’s export dialog with the same settings and the finished file is offered again, ready to download, without rendering it twice.

## How long it takes

It depends on the length and complexity of the video. The dialog estimates the time left once rendering has started. You can leave the dialog open and keep working.

## Troubleshooting

| You see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| *The render needs another try.* | Press **Try again**. |
| *Your video is in the queue. It will begin shortly.* | Another export is rendering. Wait a moment. |
| *The render queue is full: up to 5 exports wait at a time.* | Wait for one to finish, then export again. |
| *Reconnecting to the renderer… Your job will continue.* | Wait; the export carries on. |
| *The render server restarted before this video finished.* | Export again. |
| *An uploaded file is missing. Please upload it again.* | Re-upload the file in your project, then export. |
| *Use even dimensions…* | Use even numbers for custom width and height, within the limits above. |
| *This edit has no captions in that part to put in a file.* | Add captions, or choose **None** for captions. |
| The **Voice-over** switch is off and can’t be turned on | The film has no narration, or its words changed since the voice was recorded. Record the voice again first. |
